dh-php software package provides debhelper add-on to handle PHP PECL extensions, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install dh-php
dh-php is installed in your system.
Make ensure the dh-php package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep dh-php *
You will get with dh-php package name, version, architecture and description in a table
